Cagayan de Oro gives a lot of importance in Education. That’s why most of the government officials give
scholarships to young people who can’t afford to continue their studies especially in college. There are
only young people who haven’t gone to school, in the near future time will come that everyone else could
finally attend classes. There are many well known schools here in Cagayan de Oro City. In fact these schools
give pride to the city such as having the most number of students passed during Board Exams. On the recent news,
Xavier University got the 99% board passers in taking up the Nursing Board Exam.
These schools were not just ordinary schools; it even gives excellence to students and explores them to the real world.

Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan is called by many Kagay-anons as “XU” to make it short. XU is being hold by the Jesuit Community. That’s why all the students, faculties, and staffs are being well introduced to the field of religion.
Xavier University is a known school in the Island of Mindanao and considered as one of the TOP schools.

Location: Lapasan High-way, CDO City
MUST was known before as Don Mariano Canoy College (on the late 1970’s.Then on 1990’s it was changed to Mindanao Polytechnic State College (MPSC). But then just this year ( 2009), it is approved to be called as a University named as Mindanao University of Science Technology.
MUST is focused in the field of Engineering. This campus are fill with machines, tons of metals, high buildings (under construction) and some exhibit areas. In Fact, usually the Science Centrum is being placed here to be visited by many schools from different cities in Mindanao.Later on they put up their own science centrum, full of exhibits made by the students of MUST.

Location: Vamenta Boulevard, Carmen, CDO City
Liceo de Cagayan is one of the big school in Cagayan de oro. The Liceo de Cagayan University is a non-sectarian university in Cagayan de Oro, Philippines. Currently it has eleven colleges and five departments. Its current president is Dr. Mariano M. Lerin. It is developed with wide range courses.
» Capital University (CU)
Location: Corrales Extension, CDO City
Capitol University is a non-sectarian, co-educational private academic institution, duly registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission as a stock corporation and operates with the authority of the Department of Education for its primary and secondary programs and the Commission on Higher Education for its tertiary, graduate and post-graduate programs.
